“So how was your holiday?”, your friends ask. Wouldn’t it be nice to have that knowledge before you went away? Our experiences may give you the insight you can’t find elsewhere.

As a 50 something couple, we’ve recently had the time and the money to travel far more widely than the fortnightly annual holiday somewhere in the Med we enjoyed when our children were young.

When planning a big trip I find there is very limited information on how the whole thing would best be put together. Trip Advisor is great for telling you about a hotel or an attraction in a specific location but it doesn’t tell you where to go. Guides like Lonely Planet are very good in their way but they aim at backpackers and we like to travel in a bit more style than that. If you don’t have the time or interest to do the planning using a good travel agent like Abercrombie & Kent or Cox & Kings is safer but it will cost significantly more and you are at the mercy of the tour guide taking you to her favourite places and not those you may like more!

This guide is a record of our experiences and hopefully a great help to those like us wanting to enjoy their bucket-list in a more independent way. I hope you enjoy it.
